Project Outline
The Steelite International site in Stoke-on-Trent is multi-materials factory facility manufacturing tableware for the hospitality industry. This large industrial site comprises numerous production buildings, logistics, warehousing and support / office buildings.
Working directly with the customer IT management and through the local maintenance and engineering team, we were initially contracted to survey, assess and report against the existing site audio system/s. The survey results identified a number of failings and limitations of the existing audio system installation. Additionally, a recently added warehouse and processing building had no service or coverage, meaning personnel were not able to hear or respond to site announcements.
We were asked to resolve the identified existing system failings and to integrate / install a new audio system at the warehousing and processing building (sited away from the main site, across the river Trent).

Installation Details
Our survey report identified much of the existing audio system failings were related to broken ‘over head’ cabling between buildings. Long cable distances and access limitations meant that replacement of these cables would be difficult, disruptive and costly. Our proposal was to integrate the local buildings via use of the IT infrastructure and IP audio. Building speaker line circuits and speakers were retained, but new supporting 100v line audio equipment together with IP audio decoder interface units were installed to restore reliable service.
A warehouse and processing building sited outside the main site and across the river Trent required speaker coverage and connection to the main site audio service. A new 100v line audio system was installed, a mix of high level sphere and wall projector speakers were installed throughout. An IP audio decoder interface was installed and connected to the local LAN IP infrastructure to enable inter-connectivity and service with the main site audio service.
To provide live PA / Tannoy announcements, our customer required dedicated microphones at a number of locations including the main site security office. Flexibility (to move / re-locate) the microphones was important, so IP microphone units were specified and installed.
